Where do old satellites go when they die?

In fact, thousands of dead satellites fragments and rocket parts are hurtling around the Earth. At any moment, one of those pieces of space junk can collide with an active satellite, causing a disruption to your phones and computers.

Astroscale Software R&D Lead Nathaniel Guy is working on the important mission to get rid of the dangerous space debris that is hanging over our heads. During this ApéroTalk, he will speak about building, launching and operating a satellite that will be sent into orbit to inspect, capture, and deorbit uncontrollable flying trash.

Join us on this online event to learn more space tech software, satellite data collection and... wild Japanese mushrooms! When Nathaniel is not working on a space debris removal mission, he is looking for nameko and enoki on the side of forest paths, being the first non-Japanese officer of Tokyo Mushroom Society.

About Nathaniel Guy

Nathaniel "Nat" Guy is Software R&D Lead at Astroscale, where he has worked since summer 2018. Nat first worked for five years in the video game industry, at Nintendo of America as a Japanese/English bilingual software engineer. After Nintendo, he obtained Master's degrees in Computer Science and in Aeronautics & Astronautics, and interned at SpaceX, testing the flight software for the Dragon spacecraft, and with the Hakuto Lunar XPRIZE team in Sendai, developing ground software tools and GNC algorithms for their lunar rover.

After graduate school, he worked for two years at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, creating advanced interactive data visualizations to support Europa Clipper orbital design, Mars 2020 rover autonomous driving, and many other projects. Now, he works at Astroscale, leading software projects to support operations for their future spacecraft missions.
